Shailendra’s 50th Death Anniversary {December 14, 2016}

Remembering Shailendra …
It was 50 years ago on this date that the great lyricist bid adieu to the world, at the age of 43.
An untimely departure. One imagines at least a few hundred more memorable songs would have been created had he lived longer.

A salute to the master whose songs will live forever and continue to inspire!

  1. Dear Amarendra,

    It is already 50 years ?! Given that his lyrics are ageless and found relevant in just about any situation in today’s world, it simply does not seem that he has not been with us for half a century.

    I recently read a review of a book on Lincoln’s writing style, and this is also appropriate to Shailendra: “his writing has the naturalness of ordinary speech, but none of the windiness. He wrote for the ear, it seems pretty clear, as well as the eye.”

    As always, thanks for this website. Like Shailendra’s songs, it is priceless; a source of unending joy in listening to the music and wisdom in so many of the lyrics.

    Warm regards,

    Robin
